Rekhaben Sonjiben Pattani

The background seems characteristically similar. A large family – 7 members including herself, lower socio-economic strata of society, a seriously debilitating illness and inability to perform personal tasks. Polio has been known to affect such children and Rekha is one such polio affected child. Her days began with sorrow for herself and her family as she was unable to perform her tasks on her own and she was slowly becoming a liability for her parents. It is during this time that they approached Health and Care Foundation for her rehabilitation programme and the doctors readily accepted the challenge and operated upon her and post physiotherapy, she was fit to resume her daily activities. It was really heartening to see this girl perform her activities on her own and take care of her own self. A glad smile on her parents’ face added a sparkle to the moment.

Gautam Vasantbhai Pitroda

This is a case where a congenital anomaly affecting a new born child was appropriately rehabilitated at Health and Care Foundation. The child was born with a congenital defect – congenital talipes equinovarus (CTEV). Being their only child, the parents were quite depressed due to this defect and since the defect was clearly visible since child birth, the child was strapped with calipers from the early stages of life. Subsequently he was taken to a government hospital where they used plasters to correct his deformity. After obtaining no result from such procedures at various places in the interiors of Gujarat, his parents were fortunately redirected to Health and Care Foundation, Ahmedabad for further analysis and management. The team of medicos and paramedics at Health and Care Foundation were ready for such a situation and necessary action was taken. The Jess fixator was applied and bilateral CTEV calipers were provided to the child. Presently there is a considerable change in the position of the feet of the child and he is able to walk with support also.

Priyanshi Hasmukhlal

Age: 5 years

Priyanshi’s case is one where the foundation has been inspirational, more through its physiotherapy treatment in providing the healing touch to a child suffering from a congenital anomaly.

Priyanshi is a child suffering from the lesser known and insignificantly documented cerebral palsy disorder, which has now significantly assumed greater proportions and is in the limelight because of the debilitation it causes in new born children.

The girl is an only child of her parents who can ill afford the costly treatment including regular physiotherapy which is a prerequisite in such patients. Her father is hardly able to make ends meet, working as a small time assistant in a medical centre in a village outside Ahmedabad.

Health and Care Foundation took up the initiative to treat and manage the debilitation of Priyanshi and performed the necessary surgical procedures free of cost. Moreover her transportation costs are now looked into by the Ramilaben Jain trust.

She is now able to stand up straight and walk around without much discomfort. She is now able to go to school on a regular basis also.

Health and Care Foundation has been able to rehabilitate the child to some extent but is unable to cure her hearing and speech defects which are a part and parcel of cerebral palsy disorders.
